Regulatory and Policy Measures
The Reserve Bank of India has initiated the 75th round of its Order Books, Inventories and Capacity Utilisation Survey (OBICUS) for the manufacturing sector, covering the reference period July‑September 2026 (Q2 of FY2026‑27). The quarterly survey, conducted since 2008, gathers quantitative information on new orders received, order backlogs at the start and end of the quarter, inventories of finished goods, work‑in‑progress and raw material, production quantities and values, and the level of capacity utilisation derived from these responses. The collected data are treated as confidential and are not disclosed publicly. The RBI states that the survey findings provide valuable input for monetary‑policy formulation. Selected manufacturing firms will be approached directly, while other firms may voluntarily participate by downloading the questionnaire from the RBI website and submitting the authenticated schedule via the provided email address. Queries regarding the survey can be directed to the Director, Division of Enterprise Surveys, Department of Statistics and Information Management, RBI, Bandra‑Kurla Complex, Mumbai, or to the press contact Ajit Prasad (Communications).
The launch underscores the RBI’s continued effort to monitor manufacturing activity and capacity utilisation as part of its broader analytical framework for assessing economic conditions and informing policy decisions.
