Policy Rates and Liquidity
The RBI’s overnight money‑market segment (including Call Money, Triparty Repo, Market Repo and Repo in Corporate Bonds) recorded a total volume of ₹6,65,977.81 crore. The weighted‑average rate for the overnight segment was 4.98 %, with a rate range of 1.00‑5.60 %. Call Money contributed ₹12,984.27 crore at an average rate of 5.18 % (range 4.55‑5.25 %). Triparty Repo volume was ₹4,73,195.15 crore at 4.96 % (range 4.00‑5.10 %). Market Repo amounted to ₹1,73,658.34 crore at 5.00 % (range 1.00‑5.20 %). Repo in Corporate Bonds stood at ₹6,140.05 crore with an average rate of 5.26 % (range 5.15‑5.60 %).
In the term segment, Notice Money volume was ₹207.50 crore at 5.07 % (range 4.80‑5.25 %). Term Money volume was ₹997.50 crore with a quoted rate band of 5.60‑6.05 %. Triparty Repo in the term segment recorded ₹2,775.00 crore at 5.04 % (range 5.00‑5.24 %). Market Repo for the term segment showed a flat ₹44.18 crore at a uniform rate of 5.25 %.
Liquidity‑adjustment operations on 31 Aug 2026 resulted in a net liquidity absorption of ₹6,71,690.00 crore. The reverse repo operation injected ₹2,49,840.00 crore at a rate of 5.24 % (tenor 1 day, maturing 01 Sep 2026). The Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) absorbed ₹551.00 crore at 5.50 % (tenor 1 day). The Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) absorbed ₹2,87,776.00 crore at 5.00 % (tenor 1 day). The Standing Liquidity Facility (SLF) availed from RBI amounted to ₹6,341.66 crore, contributing to a net liquidity injection from outstanding operations of ₹6,341.66 crore. Overall, net liquidity from all outstanding and today’s operations was ‑₹6,65,348.34 crore.
Banking and Credit
Cash reserve positions of scheduled commercial banks as on 31 Aug 2026 were ₹8,22,514.31 crore. The average daily cash‑reserve requirement for the fortnight ending 31 Aug 2026 was ₹8,17,404.00 crore. The Government of India’s surplus cash balance for auction purposes was ₹0.00. Net durable liquidity (surplus) as on 15 Aug 2026 stood at ₹8,05,736.00 crore.
Capital Markets and Flows
The data reflect robust activity across money‑market instruments, indicating continued reliance on short‑term funding channels by banks and corporates. Weighted average rates across segments remained clustered around the 5 % level, with the lowest observed rate at 1.00 % in the overnight segment and the highest at 6.05 % in the term‑money band.
Overall, the RBI’s operations on 31 Aug 2026 show a sizeable injection‑absorption dynamic, a high volume of repo‑based liquidity, and strong cash‑reserve holdings by scheduled banks, underscoring the central bank’s active management of short‑term liquidity and monetary conditions.
