Policy Rates and Liquidity

The Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) operated on 23 August 2026 with a one‑day tenor, injecting ₹9,531.00 crore at a rate of 5.50%. The Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) on the same day injected ₹1,62,921.00 crore at a rate of 5.00%. Net liquidity injected from today’s operations was a withdrawal of ₹1,53,390.00 crore, indicating overall absorption.

Outstanding Operations

Reverse repo operations outstanding as of 21 August 2026 carried a three‑day tenor, amounting to ₹95,970.00 crore at 5.24% and maturing on 24 August 2026. An additional reverse repo dated 17 August 2026 had a seven‑day tenor, amounting to ₹98,945.00 crore at the same rate, also maturing on 24 August 2026. MSF outstanding on 22 August 2026 showed zero amount for a two‑day tenor at 5.50%. SDF outstanding included ₹55.00 crore for a three‑day tenor at 5.50% (dated 21 August) and ₹0.00 crore for a two‑day tenor at 5.00% (dated 22 August). Another SDF entry on 21 August recorded ₹1,357.00 crore at 5.00% for a one‑day tenor. The Standing Liquidity Facility (SLF) availed from RBI amounted to ₹9,486.06 crore. Net liquidity injected from outstanding operations was a withdrawal of ₹1,86,730.94 crore, leading to a cumulative net liquidity absorption of ₹3,40,120.94 crore when combined with today’s operations.

Reserve Position

Cash balances of scheduled commercial banks with the RBI stood at ₹7,92,903.03 crore as of 23 August 2026. The average daily cash reserve requirement for the fortnight ending 31 August 2026 was projected at ₹8,17,404.00 crore. The Government of India’s surplus cash balance reckoned for auction as of 21 August 2026 was zero. Net durable liquidity as of 31 July 2026 was reported at ₹6,79,145.00 crore.

Money Market Activity

All segments of the money market – overnight (including call money, triparty repo, market repo, and repo in corporate bonds) and term (including notice money, term money, triparty repo, market repo, and repo in corporate bonds) – recorded zero volume and a weighted average rate of 0.00%, with no range reported.

Overall, the RBI’s monetary operations on 23 August 2026 reflected significant liquidity absorption across both today’s and outstanding facilities, zero activity in money‑market trading, and a strong cash reserve position for scheduled banks.
