Policy rates and liquidity
The overnight money‑market segment (I+II+III+IV) recorded a total volume of 21,305.80 crore, with a weighted average rate of 4.85% and a rate range of 4.00‑5.25%. Call money contributed 1,832.90 crore at 4.94% (range 4.75‑5.25%), triparty repo 18,856.40 crore at 4.87% (range 4.60‑5.05%), and market repo 616.50 crore at 4.02% (range 4.00‑4.06%). No repo in corporate bonds was recorded. The term segment showed zero activity across notice money, term money, and repo categories.
Today's liquidity operations included a Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) transaction of 620.00 crore at 5.50% for a one‑day tenor, and Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) transactions of 1,000.00 crore at 5.50% (two‑day tenor) and 2,04,949.00 crore at 5.00% (one‑day tenor). An additional SDF operation of 5,327.00 crore at 5.00% for a two‑day tenor was also executed. Net liquidity injected from today's operations was –2,08,656.00 crore, indicating absorption.
Outstanding variable‑rate operations comprised reverse repo transactions of 1,68,055.00 crore (tenor 4 days, rate 5.24%) dated 01‑Oct‑2026, 36,949.00 crore (tenor 26 days, rate 5.24%) dated 11‑Sep‑2026, and 1,06,176.00 crore (tenor 30 days, rate 5.24%) dated 07‑Sep‑2026. Outstanding MSF balances were nil. Outstanding SDF balances were nil except for a 135.00 crore entry at 5.00% (two‑day tenor) dated 02‑Oct‑2026 and a 1,138.00 crore entry at 5.00% (four‑day tenor) dated 01‑Oct‑2026. The Standing Liquidity Facility (SLF) availed from RBI amounted to 4,113.18 crore.
Aggregating today’s and outstanding operations, net liquidity injected was –5,16,995.82 crore, confirming overall liquidity absorption.
Banking and credit
Cash reserves of scheduled commercial banks stood at 8,51,017.54 crore as of 03‑Oct‑2026. The average daily cash reserve requirement for the fortnight ending 15‑Oct‑2026 was 8,17,219.00 crore.
The Government of India reported a surplus cash balance of 0.00 crore for the auction dated 01‑Oct‑2026 and a net durable liquidity surplus of 13,93,819.00 crore as of 15‑Sep‑2026.
Overall, the RBI’s operations on 03‑Oct‑2026 reflected a deliberate tightening stance, with liquidity absorption exceeding 5 trillion rupees and market rates anchored in the 4.00‑5.25% corridor.
