Policy Rates and Liquidity
The Reserve Bank of India conducted marginal standing facility (MSF) and standing deposit facility (SDF) operations on 08‑Aug‑2026. The MSF operation for a one‑day tenor matured on 09‑Aug‑2026 with an amount of ₹938.00 cr at a rate of 5.50 %. Two SDF operations were executed: a two‑day tenor maturing on 10‑Aug‑2026 with zero amount at 5.50 % and a one‑day tenor maturing on 09‑Aug‑2026 with ₹2,26,203.00 cr at 5.00 %. An additional SDF entry for a two‑day tenor on the same day recorded zero amount at 5.00 %.
Net liquidity injected from today’s operations was a negative ₹2,25,265.00 cr, indicating absorption of liquidity from the market.
Outstanding operations included a reverse repo on 06‑Aug‑2026 (four‑day tenor) amounting to ₹1,30,286.00 cr at 5.24 %. MSF outstanding on 07‑Aug‑2026 comprised two entries: a two‑day tenor with zero amount and a three‑day tenor with ₹579.00 cr, both at 5.50 %. SDF outstanding on the same date included a two‑day tenor of ₹90.00 cr at 5.00 % and a three‑day tenor of ₹5,463.00 cr at 5.00 %. The Standing Liquidity Facility (SLF) availed from the RBI amounted to ₹10,594.66 cr. Net liquidity injected from outstanding operations was –₹1,24,665.34 cr, and when combined with today’s operations the total net liquidity injection stood at –₹3,49,930.34 cr.
Banking and Credit
Cash reserves of scheduled commercial banks as of 08‑Aug‑2026 were ₹7,83,902.81 cr held with the RBI. The average daily cash reserve requirement for the fortnight ending 15‑Aug‑2026 was ₹8,03,001.00 cr, indicating a slight shortfall relative to actual balances.
Government Liquidity Position
The Government of India’s surplus cash balance for the auction dated 07‑Aug‑2026 was zero. However, the net durable liquidity surplus as of 15‑Jul‑2026 was reported at ₹5,36,080.00 cr.
Overall, the RBI’s money market operations on 08‑Aug‑2026 reflected a net withdrawal of liquidity from the system, with negative net injection figures across both today’s and outstanding operations, while bank cash reserves remained marginally below the required average, and the government’s immediate surplus cash balance was nil.
