Policy rates and liquidity
The RBI’s today‑day operations on 28 Aug 2026 included a reverse repo of ₹1,52,537.00 cr at a rate of 5.24%, maturing on 31 Aug 2026. The Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) was utilised for ₹358.00 cr at 5.50% on 29 Aug 2026, with no further utilisation on 30 Aug or 31 Aug. The Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) saw an injection of ₹2,48,750.00 cr at 5.00% on 29 Aug 2026 and a further ₹1,195.00 cr on 31 Aug 2026, with no activity on 30 Aug. Net liquidity injected from today’s operations amounted to a negative ₹4,02,124.00 cr, indicating liquidity absorption.
Outstanding operations included a reverse repo of ₹91,980.00 cr at 5.24% maturing on 31 Aug 2026. Net liquidity injected from outstanding operations was a negative ₹85,638.34 cr. Combining today’s and outstanding operations, total net liquidity injected was a negative ₹4,87,762.34 cr.
Banking and credit
In the overnight segment (I+II+III+IV), total volume reached ₹16,859.60 cr with a weighted average rate of 5.12% (range 4.00‑5.40%). Break‑downs: Call Money volume ₹1,166.75 cr at 4.99% (range 4.70‑5.15%); Triparty Repo ₹8,526.80 cr at 5.02% (range 4.00‑5.25%); Market Repo ₹493.00 cr at 5.03% (range 4.50‑5.25%); Repo in Corporate Bond ₹6,673.05 cr at 5.27% (range 5.25‑5.40%).
In the term segment, Notice Money volume was ₹11,655.09 cr at a weighted rate of 5.22% (range 4.60‑5.25%). Term Money (uncollateralised 15‑day to 1‑year tenor) amounted to ₹610.00 cr with rates between 5.60‑5.85%. Triparty Repo volume was ₹4,71,142.90 cr at 5.04% (range 4.40‑5.75%). Market Repo volume stood at ₹1,83,951.29 cr with a weighted rate of 5.03% (range 0.01‑5.30%). Repo in Corporate Bond in the term segment was ₹53.00 cr at a fixed rate of 5.70% (range 5.70‑5.70%). The Standing Liquidity Facility (SLF) availed from the RBI amounted to ₹6,341.66 cr.
Cash reserves position
Cash balances of scheduled commercial banks with the RBI as on 28 Aug 2026 were ₹8,32,150.16 cr. The average daily cash reserve requirement for the fortnight ending 31 Aug 2026 was ₹8,17,404.00 cr. Net durable liquidity, representing surplus, was ₹6,79,145.00 cr as of 31 July 2026.
The data reflects a substantial liquidity absorption of nearly ₹4.88 Lakh cr on 28 Aug 2026, while money‑market activity remained robust across both overnight and term segments, and scheduled banks continued to hold high cash reserves.
