Policy Rates and Liquidity

The RBI conducted a reverse repo operation on Thursday, 06‑08‑2026 with a tenor of 4 days, amounting to ₹1,30,286.00 crore at a rate of 5.24%. On the same day, the Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) was utilised for 1‑day tenor, injecting ₹3,686.00 crore at 5.50%, while the Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) was availed for 1‑day tenor, injecting ₹2,45,409.00 crore at 5.00%. Net liquidity injected from today’s operations amounted to a net absorption of ₹3,72,009.00 crore. Outstanding operations show a net liquidity injection (including today’s) of –₹3,61,414.34 crore. The Standing Liquidity Facility (SLF) availed from RBI totals ₹10,594.66 crore, contributing the same amount as net liquidity injected from outstanding operations.

Capital Markets and Flows

In the overnight segment (I+II+III+IV), total volume reached ₹6,20,014.47 crore with a weighted average rate of 5.04% and a rate range of 3.95‑6.35%. Breakdown: Call Money volume was ₹13,606.39 crore at 5.18% (range 4.60‑5.25%); Triparty Repo volume was ₹4,20,159.15 crore at 5.02% (range 4.70‑5.19%); Market Repo volume was ₹1,79,257.28 crore at 5.08% (range 3.95‑5.30%); Repo in Corporate Bond volume was ₹6,991.65 crore at 5.27% (range 5.15‑6.35%).

In the term segment, Notice Money volume stood at ₹227.20 crore with a rate of 5.00% (range 4.70‑5.10%); Term Money volume was ₹320.00 crore with a rate range of 5.50‑5.75%; Triparty Repo volume was ₹3,020.00 crore at 5.07% (range 5.00‑5.26%); Market Repo volume was ₹99.41 crore at a flat rate of 5.35%; Repo in Corporate Bond had no activity.

Banking and Credit

Cash reserves of scheduled commercial banks as on August 06, 2026 amounted to ₹7,87,629.35 crore. The average daily cash reserve requirement for the fortnight ending August 15, 2026 was ₹8,03,001.00 crore. The Government of India’s surplus cash balance reckoned for auction as on August 06, 2026 (and July 15, 2026) was ₹5,36,080.00 crore, indicating a net durable liquidity surplus.

Overall, the RBI’s money market operations reflect substantial overnight liquidity with weighted rates hovering around 5%, while net liquidity absorption of approximately ₹3.7 lakh crore suggests a tightening stance. Cash reserves of banks remain robust relative to statutory requirements, and the government’s surplus cash position adds to overall liquidity stability.
