Policy rates and liquidity

The RBI reported total overnight money‑market volume of ₹7,18,168.02 crore. The weighted average rate for the overnight segment was 4.81 % with a range of 2.00‑5.40 %. Call‑money volume was ₹13,358.71 crore at 5.02 % (range 4.60‑5.15 %). Triparty repo volume stood at ₹5,19,954.50 crore with a weighted rate of 4.87 % (range 4.70‑5.05 %). Market repo volume was ₹1,78,212.76 crore at 4.63 % (range 2.00‑5.40 %). Repo in corporate bonds recorded ₹6,642.05 crore at 5.00 % (range 4.95‑5.35 %). In the term segment, notice‑money volume was ₹198.00 crore at 5.05 % (range 4.80‑5.90 %). Term‑money volume was ₹1,141.00 crore; triparty repo in the term segment was ₹3,545.00 crore at 5.08 % (range 4.75‑5.30 %). Market repo in the term segment was ₹118.62 crore at 5.36 % (range 5.00‑5.45 %). No repo in corporate bonds was recorded for the term segment.

Banking and credit

Cash‑reserve balances of scheduled commercial banks as of 16 September 2026 were ₹8,16,490.88 crore. The average daily cash‑reserve requirement for the fortnight ending 30 September 2026 is projected at ₹8,21,989.00 crore.

Capital markets and flows

Today's liquidity‑adjustment operations injected ₹1,35,853.00 crore via repo and ₹308.00 crore via the marginal standing facility (MSF) at 5.50 %. Reverse‑repo operations on 16 September 2026 amounted to ₹40,302.00 crore at 5.24 %. Outstanding reverse‑repo operations as of 11 September 2026 totalled ₹60,449.00 crore, and outstanding repo operations as of 7 September 2026 were ₹2,54,776.00 crore, both at 5.24 %. Net liquidity injected from today's operations was ₹1,35,853.00 crore (injection) and –₹4,25,872.00 crore (absorption), resulting in a net liquidity injection of –₹7,37,512.89 crore when combined with outstanding operations.

Financial stability and inclusion

The net durable liquidity surplus for the government as of 31 August 2026 was ₹10,66,303.00 crore, while the surplus cash balance for auction on 16 September 2026 was zero. Overall net liquidity position, including today's and outstanding operations, shows a net absorption of ₹7,37,512.89 crore.

The RBI’s money‑market data indicate robust overnight market activity with weighted rates around 4.8‑5 %, significant liquidity injections through repo facilities, and a substantial cash‑reserve base for scheduled banks, while government liquidity surplus remains sizable.
