Policy rates and liquidity
The RBI disclosed that the overnight money‑market segment (inclusive of Call Money, Triparty Repo, Market Repo and Repo in Corporate Bond) recorded a total one‑leg volume of ₹21,193.86 crore, with a weighted average rate of 5.29% and a rate range of 4.50‑5.67%. Call Money contributed ₹1,475.20 crore at 5.04% (range 4.75‑5.35%). Triparty Repo volume was ₹12,541.45 crore at 5.39% (range 4.50‑5.67%). Market Repo stood at ₹1,307.76 crore at 5.25% (rate fixed at 5.25%). Repo in Corporate Bonds amounted to ₹5,869.45 crore at 5.17% (range 5.10‑5.35%).
In the term segment, Notice Money volume was ₹12,721.47 crore with a weighted average rate of 5.12% (range 4.00‑5.55%). Term Money volume was ₹1,204.00 crore; the rate was not disclosed, with a quoted range of 5.40‑6.10%. Triparty Repo in the term segment reached ₹5,35,004.70 crore at 5.14% (range 4.95‑5.59%). Market Repo in the term segment was ₹1,90,764.58 crore at 5.08% (range 2.50‑5.65%). No data were provided for Repo in Corporate Bonds under the term segment.
Today's liquidity operations showed a net absorption of ₹2,98,537.00 crore. The Reverse Repo operation conducted on Thu, 01/10/2026 for a 4‑day tenor injected ₹1,68,055.00 crore at a rate of 5.24%, maturing on Mon, 05/10/2026. The Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) was offered on the same day for tenors of 1‑4 days; only the 1‑day tenor was utilised, absorbing ₹824.00 crore at 5.50%, while the remaining tenors saw zero utilisation. The Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) was availed for tenors of 1‑4 days, with amounts of ₹1,26,327.00 crore (1‑day), ₹3,841.00 crore (2‑day), ₹0.00 (3‑day) and ₹1,138.00 crore (4‑day) at a rate of 5.00%.
Outstanding operations as of the reporting date included a Reverse Repo of ₹36,949.00 crore (26‑day tenor) at 5.24% maturing on Wed, 07/10/2026, and an MSF of ₹1,06,176.00 crore (30‑day tenor) at 5.24% maturing on the same date. The Standing Liquidity Facility (SLF) availed from the RBI amounted to ₹4,113.18 crore. Net liquidity injected from outstanding operations was –₹1,39,011.82 crore, leading to a cumulative net liquidity injection (including today’s operations) of –₹4,37,548.82 crore.
Banking and credit
Cash reserve positions of scheduled commercial banks were reported as follows: cash balances with the RBI as on Oct 01 2026 stood at ₹9,22,976.80 crore, while the average daily cash reserve requirement for the fortnight ending Oct 15 2026 was ₹8,17,219.00 crore. The Government of India’s surplus cash balance reckoned for auction was ₹13,93,819.00 crore as of Oct 01 2026 (and also as of Sep 15 2026).
Overall, the RBI’s money‑market operations on 1 October 2026 reflected substantial liquidity absorption across both overnight and term segments, with detailed utilisation of reverse repo, MSF and SDF facilities, and a strong cash‑reserve position among scheduled banks.
