Policy Rates and Liquidity

The RBI conducted an overnight Variable Rate Reverse Repo (VRRR) auction on 5 October 2026. The notified amount for the auction was ₹2,00,000 crore. Bids received totalled ₹2,10,688 crore, and the RBI accepted ₹2,00,050 crore, representing a partial acceptance of 94.36% of the offers at the cut‑off rate. Both the cut‑off rate and the weighted average rate were set at 5.24 per cent, indicating the cost of overnight liquidity for banks.

Regulatory and Policy Measures

The auction result was communicated through Press Release 2026‑2027/1243 issued by Deputy General Manager Ajit Prasad of the RBI’s Department of Communication.

The RBI’s VRRR operation absorbed a substantial amount of liquidity at a 5.24% rate, reflecting the central bank’s ongoing stance on managing short‑term liquidity conditions.
