External Sector and Currency
Total foreign exchange reserves as of 7 August 2026 stood at ₹6,732,093 crore (US$707,002 million), representing a weekly increase of ₹119,945 crore and a year‑to‑date rise of ₹178,232 crore. Foreign currency assets were ₹5,471,605 crore, up ₹82,740 crore week‑on‑week and ₹234,238 crore year‑to‑date. Gold holdings amounted to ₹1,035,407 crore, increasing ₹35,821 crore weekly but decreasing ₹58,903 crore year‑to‑date. Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) rose to ₹178,487 crore, up ₹356 crore weekly and ₹1,898 crore year‑to‑date. The Reserve Position in the IMF increased to ₹46,595 crore, up ₹1,028 crore weekly and ₹999 crore year‑to‑date. Note: data exclude SDR holdings of the RBI, IIFC bond investments, SAARC and ACU swap arrangements, and RBI’s contribution to Nexus Global Payments.
Policy Rates and Liquidity
The RBI conducted liquidity operations through the Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) and Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) during the week of 3–9 August 2026. SDF balances ranged from ₹224,228 crore to ₹257,461 crore, while MSF balances varied between ₹32 crore and ₹6,386 crore. Net absorption of liquidity each day was negative, totaling approximately ₹2.25 trillion over the week, indicating net liquidity withdrawal.
Banking and Credit
Scheduled commercial banks reported aggregate deposits of ₹26,941,367 crore as of 31 July 2026, a fortnightly increase of ₹660,688 crore (2.5%) and a year‑to‑date growth of 10.2%. Demand deposits fell by ₹257,855 crore, whereas time deposits rose by ₹970,436 crore. Borrowings declined by ₹7,660 crore fortnightly. Other demand and time liabilities increased by ₹59,299 crore. Total bank credit reached ₹22,078,095 crore, up ₹343,420 crore fortnightly (1.6%) and 10.0% year‑to‑date. Food credit rose by ₹20,143 crore fortnightly, while non‑food credit grew by ₹346,320 crore.
Money Stock
Broad money (M3) stood at ₹32,281,302 crore on 31 July 2026, up ₹638,771 crore (2.0%) fortnightly and ₹853,284 crore (3.1%) year‑to‑date. Currency with the public increased by ₹26,562 crore fortnightly (‑0.6%) and ₹76,706 crore year‑to‑date (2.1%). Demand deposits with banks grew by ₹241,281 crore fortnightly (7.2%) and ₹178,643 crore year‑to‑date (6.3%). Time deposits with banks rose by ₹422,618 crore fortnightly (1.8%) and ₹603,599 crore year‑to‑date (2.9%). Other deposits with the RBI increased modestly. Net bank credit to the government was ₹9,359,609 crore, up ₹14,004 crore fortnightly (0.1%). Bank credit to the commercial sector reached ₹22,933,415 crore, up ₹348,607 crore fortnightly (1.5%).
The bulletin indicates a continued build‑up in foreign exchange reserves, modest net liquidity withdrawals through RBI facilities, and steady growth in bank deposits and credit, supporting a stable monetary environment.
