External Sector and Currency
The weekly supplement reports total foreign exchange reserves of ₹7,073,111 crore (US$ 734,606 mn) as of 2 Oct 2026, a week‑on‑week decline of ₹91,176 crore (US$ 12,952 mn). Foreign currency assets stand at ₹5,822,889 crore (US$ 604,747 mn), down ₹74,933 crore (US$ 10,664 mn). Gold holdings are ₹1,024,611 crore (US$ 106,413 mn), decreasing by ₹17,131 crore (US$ 2,288 mn). Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) total ₹179,636 crore (US$ 18,656 mn), up ₹980 crore (US$ 15 mn). Money Stock and Macro Outlook
M3 money stock increased to ₹31,453,126 crore as of 31 Mar 2026 and further to ₹33,766,475 crore by 30 Sep 2026, a weekly rise of ₹699,030 crore (2.1%). Year‑to‑date growth is ₹4,871,266 crore (16.9%). The components are:
- Currency with the public: ₹4,065,488 crore (Mar) to ₹4,207,251 crore (Sep), weekly change –₹2,920 crore (‑0.1%), year‑on‑year increase ₹508,759 crore (13.8%).
- Demand deposits with banks: ₹3,844,879 crore to ₹3,890,599 crore, weekly +₹399,124 crore (11.4%), year‑on‑year +₹673,565 crore (20.9%).
- Time deposits with banks: ₹23,410,625 crore to ₹25,541,542 crore, weekly +₹299,110 crore (1.2%), year‑on‑year +₹3,675,711 crore (16.8%).
- Other deposits with RBI: ₹132,134 crore to ₹127,084 crore, weekly +₹3,716 crore (3.0%), year‑on‑year +₹13,231 crore (11.6%).
Banking and Credit
Aggregate bank credit to the government fell 1.4% week‑on‑week to ₹9,415,530 crore, a year‑on‑year rise of 7.8% (₹681,364 crore). The Reserve Bank’s share declined by ₹261,820 crore, while other banks increased by ₹126,093 crore (1.6%).
Bank credit to the commercial sector rose 2.6% week‑on‑week to ₹23,849,938 crore, with a year‑on‑year increase of 18.8% (₹3,781,717 crore). Credit from the Reserve Bank fell marginally by ₹529 crore, whereas other banks expanded by ₹601,478 crore (2.6%).
The tables note that figures incorporate the impact of a non‑bank merger effective 14 July 2023.
Policy Rates and Liquidity Operations
Liquidity operations for the week ending 4 Oct 2026 show net absorption figures across various facilities. Variable‑rate repo rates (VRR) were ₹168,055 crore on 1 Oct 2026, with the Standing Liquidity Facility (SLF) at ₹824 crore and the SDF at ₹131,306 crore. Net absorption on that day was –₹298,537 crore. Earlier dates recorded net absorptions of –₹336,013 crore (28 Sep), –₹352,525 crore (29 Sep), –₹347,906 crore (30 Sep), –₹132,755 crore (2 Oct), –₹208,656 crore (3 Oct), and –₹203,127 crore (4 Oct). The data reflect the RBI’s ongoing liquidity management through repo, reverse‑repo, and other facilities.
