External sector and currency

The bulletin records total foreign exchange reserves as of 25 September 2026 at ₹7,164,287 crore (US$747,557 million). This represents a weekly decline of ₹178,698 crore (US$‑18,343 million) and a year‑to‑date increase of ₹610,425 crore (US$56,450 million).

Component‑wise, foreign currency assets stand at ₹5,897,822 crore (US$615,411 million), down ₹151,661 crore weekly; gold holdings are ₹1,041,743 crore (US$108,701 million), down ₹25,264 crore weekly; Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) are ₹178,656 crore (US$18,642 million), down ₹1,001 crore weekly; and the RBI’s reserve position in the IMF is ₹46,066 crore (US$4,804 million), down ₹772 crore weekly.

Policy rates and liquidity

Liquidity operations for the week of 21‑27 September 2026 are detailed. The Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) rates ranged from ₹32 crore to ₹10,288 crore, while the Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) rates varied between ₹157,750 crore and ₹208,457 crore. Net liquidity absorption (calculated as the sum of injections minus withdrawals) was negative each day, ranging from –₹182,274 crore on 26‑Sep‑26 to –₹311,826 crore on 25‑Sep‑26, indicating overall liquidity tightening during the period.

Banking and credit

Scheduled commercial banks reported aggregate deposits of ₹27,623,066 crore as of 15 September 2026, a weekly decline of ₹248,508 crore (‑0.9 %) and a year‑to‑date growth of 17.3 %. Demand deposits fell by ₹112,635 crore weekly, while time deposits declined by ₹135,873 crore weekly.

Borrowings stood at ₹990,679 crore, up ₹22,082 crore weekly. Other demand and time liabilities were ₹1,480,156 crore, increasing ₹168,937 crore weekly.

Total bank credit to the economy was ₹22,329,258 crore, down ₹57,894 crore weekly (‑0.3 %) and up 18.1 % year‑to‑date. Food credit amounted to ₹109,721 crore, down ₹2,320 crore weekly, whereas non‑food credit was ₹22,219,537 crore, down ₹55,574 crore weekly.

The data note that figures include the impact of a non‑bank merger effective 1 July 2023 and that the definition of a fortnight was revised under the Banking Laws (Amendment) Act, 2025, to the 15th and last calendar day of each month, effective 15 December 2025.

Money supply

Money stock M3 as of 31 March 2026 was ₹31,453,126 crore, decreasing by ₹154,245 crore (‑0.5 %) in the fortnight to 15 September 2026. Year‑to‑date, M3 grew by 3.9 % (₹1,063,631 crore) and is projected to increase by 5.1 % (₹1,614,320 crore) in FY 2026‑27.

Component‑wise, currency with the public rose 0.4 % weekly to ₹4,210,170 crore, demand deposits with banks fell 3.1 % weekly to ₹3,491,475 crore, and time deposits with banks fell 0.2 % weekly to ₹25,242,433 crore. Other deposits with the RBI increased 0.4 % weekly to ₹123,368 crore.

Overall, the RBI’s weekly statistical supplement shows a modest contraction in foreign exchange reserves, a notable reduction in state‑government loans, a slight pull‑back in bank deposits and credit, and continued negative net liquidity injections, while money supply growth remains positive on a year‑to‑date basis.
