Rozgar Mela: 12.75 Lakh Government Appointment Letters Distributed

The National Rozgar Mela initiative has completed 20 editions and distributed 12.75 lakh appointment letters for government positions, exceeding its initial target of 10 lakh jobs. The program was launched on October 22, 2022, with the first edition distributing over 75,000 appointment letters across 50 locations nationwide.

The 20th edition was conducted on September 19, 2026, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the event via video conferencing and distributing over 51,000 appointment letters to newly inducted youth across various government departments and organizations. This edition was organized across 45 locations, bringing the cumulative total to approximately 12.75 lakh appointments.

Recruitment Scope and Participating Ministries

Recruitment has been pursued through a mission-mode approach using established mechanisms including the Union Public Service Commission, Staff Selection Commission, and Railway Recruitment Boards. The new recruits have joined multiple ministries including Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Posts, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Financial Services, and Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Edition-wise Progress and Distribution

The initiative has shown consistent performance across editions: the 2nd edition (November 2022) distributed approximately 71,000 letters across 45+ cities; the 4th edition (April 2023) distributed ~71,000 letters across 45 locations and 45 departments; the 8th edition (August 2023) focused on CAPF recruitment (CRPF, BSF, SSB, Assam Rifles, CISF, ITBP, NCB) and Delhi Police with 51,000+ letters; the 12th edition (February 2024) distributed 1 lakh+ letters and included foundation stone laying for "Karmayogi Bhavan" in New Delhi; the 16th edition (July 2025) saw cumulative appointments cross 10 lakhs with 51,000+ letters across 47 locations; the 18th edition (January 2026) distributed 61,000+ letters with more than 8,000 women receiving appointments; the 19th edition (May 2026) reached about 12 lakh cumulative appointments with over 50% dedicated to Indian Railways; and the 20th edition completed the 12.75 lakh milestone.

Comprehensive Employment Services

The Rozgar Mela serves as a half-day event that brings together employers and job seekers for direct interaction and interviews. Organized by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) in collaboration with Sector Skill Councils and Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras, the program caters to youth aged 18-35 years with diverse educational backgrounds including 8th, 10th, and 12th pass candidates, ITI and Diploma holders, graduates, and NSQF-aligned certified candidates.

Beyond recruitment, the initiative provides complementary services including career counseling sessions for job seekers and parents, Kaushal Melas for fresh skill development training under PMKVY and PMKK programs, Mudra Loan facilitation through linkage with Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana for aspiring entrepreneurs, and skill exhibitions showcasing training models and equipment from various sectors.

Program Evolution and Additional Features

The initiative has introduced several enhancements including the Karmayogi Prarambh online learning module on the iGOT Karmayogi portal offering 400+ e-learning courses (featured in the 10th edition), and the Pratibha Setu Portal announced during the 17th edition (October 2025) which connects candidates who reached UPSC final lists but weren't selected with opportunities in public and private institutions.
