Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region and Communications, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, addressed the Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026 virtually on July 9, 2026, urging industry leaders to invest in Tripura's growth story. The Minister described Tripura as one of Northeast India's most promising investment destinations and positioned it as standing at the intersection of connectivity, commerce, and opportunity.

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's transformative Act East Policy, the Northeast is emerging as an engine of growth for Viksit Bharat, repositioned from India's frontier to its gateway to Southeast Asia. Agartala is specifically emerging as a strategic gateway connecting businesses to the ASEAN region, which comprises over 670 million people and represents one of the world's largest economic blocs.

Tripura's exceptional strengths highlighted include abundant reserves of natural gas (making it India's second-largest producer), bamboo (India's largest producer), agarwood, rubber, tea, spices, and horticultural produce. The state also offers a highly educated workforce, investor-friendly policies, expanding infrastructure, and India's third International Internet Gateway.

Key infrastructure initiatives positioning Tripura as a springboard for exports include the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway, the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project, the Special Economic Zone at Sabroom, the Maitri Setu bridge, and the Integrated Check Post. The Minister emphasized that investment follows confidence, which follows infrastructure, which follows vision, noting the fundamental transformation of the Northeast's development landscape over the past decade.
