On World Environment Day, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare and Rural Development Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan planted a tree at Smart City Park in Bhopal under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event took place on June 5, 2026, as reported by PIB Delhi. Chouhan emphasized that tree plantation is not just about planting saplings but a campaign to protect humanity, nature, and future generations, stating that if trees are saved, water, forests, land, and biodiversity will remain protected.

Chouhan shared his personal commitment to tree plantation, revealing that he has planted a tree every day without interruption for the past five and a half years since taking a resolve from Amarkantak. He specifically mentioned a banyan tree he planted in 2021 at the same Smart City Park that has now grown into a massive tree serving nature and wildlife. The minister appealed to citizens to make tree plantation a regular part of life, suggesting linking it to special occasions such as birthdays, children's birthdays, marriages, wedding anniversaries, and in memory of parents. He personally planted a tree in memory of his late mother Smt. Sundar Devi Ji as part of the campaign.

Chouhan noted that the tree plantation movement has evolved from individual resolve to broader public participation, with a large number of children, youth, and citizens now joining the campaign. He expressed satisfaction that awareness toward environment protection is increasing in society and the new generation is making it part of their lives. The minister emphasized that environment protection requires ground action rather than just speeches and discussions.
