Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, along with Union Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju and Chief Minister Shri Pema Khandu, conducted extensive aerial and ground inspections of flood-affected areas in Arunachal Pradesh on July 1, 2026. The delegation performed an aerial survey of Keyi Panyor district and traveled by road to directly interact with affected residents to assess the extent of damage.
Shri Chouhan announced that a comprehensive assessment of flood damage would be conducted, covering losses to homes, agricultural fields, crops, and livestock. He assured that new houses would be constructed for families whose homes were washed away, and appropriate compensation would be provided for all verified losses. Immediate relief in the form of food grains and essential supplies is already being provided to affected families.
The Minister emphasized that both Central and State Governments are working in close coordination under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has expressed personal concern about the situation and directed that every possible assistance be extended. Infrastructure including roads, bridges, electricity systems, and communication networks has been severely affected across multiple locations.
Following the field visit, Shri Chouhan chaired a high-level review meeting in Itanagar with the Chief Minister, Union Minister, and senior officials to accelerate relief and rehabilitation measures. The meeting focused on ensuring prompt assistance reaches every affected family, expediting damage assessment, and implementing rehabilitation measures. Chief Minister Pema Khandu has submitted a preliminary report, with a detailed assessment report to follow for Central Government review.
The response operation is being conducted on two fronts: immediate relief provision including food grains, medicines, drinking water, and essential services; and formulation of a comprehensive long-term rehabilitation plan based on detailed damage assessment. The Central Government has committed to providing all possible assistance to restore normalcy and develop scientific solutions for better disaster management in the future.
