Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman will undertake an official visit to Qatar from September 27th to 29th, 2026, leading a delegation comprising Ministry of Finance officials. The primary purpose of the visit is to attend the 11th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) scheduled in Doha on September 28th, 2026. India participates as the second largest shareholder of AIIB, with Minister Sitharaman serving as the Indian Governor to the bank.
During the visit, the Finance Minister will conduct important bilateral meetings with the AIIB President and her counterparts from Jordan, Switzerland, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, and Nepal. Additionally, she is expected to call on the leadership of the Government of Qatar and engage with Qatari business leaders and investors to strengthen economic ties.
The AIIB Annual Meeting typically witnesses participation from delegations of member countries and international organizations. As a multilateral development bank, AIIB focuses on developing sustainable infrastructure in Asia and promoting investments in infrastructure and other productive sectors to foster sustainable economic development, create wealth, and improve infrastructure connectivity across the region.
