The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has reported that Integrated Command and Control Centres (ICCCs) have been fully operationalized across all 100 Smart Cities under the Smart Cities Mission. These centers function as nerve centers for city operations, enabling real-time monitoring, data-driven decision-making, and proactive management of urban services across multiple domains.
ICCCs integrate data from various urban systems including traffic management, solid waste management, water supply, street lighting, public safety, and emergency response systems. The centers are being effectively utilized for traffic and mobility management, solid waste management, emergency and disaster response, citizen grievance redressal, and public safety and surveillance.
Specific technological implementations include Intelligent Traffic Management Systems (ITMS), Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) for traffic management and enforcement, GPS-based route optimization for efficient solid waste collection, facial recognition systems for enhanced public safety, and crowd monitoring technologies for managing large gatherings. The data-driven insights from ICCCs are being leveraged to inform urban planning and policy decisions, enhancing urban resilience and improving citizen quality of life through evidence-based governance and improved operational efficiency.
