The Department of Social Justice & Empowerment (DoSJE), as the nodal department for drug demand reduction, is organizing 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah' from June 17 to June 26, 2026, under the theme "Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan." This week-long campaign coincides with the International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking on June 26th and aims to amplify nationwide efforts against substance abuse through both on-ground and online activities.
The virtual inauguration on June 17th will be conducted by Dr. Virendra Kumar, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, who will launch key initiatives including a Personal Dashboard for Nasha Mukti Mitra (NMM) volunteers and a short film on the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA). These tools are designed to strengthen citizen participation, enhance volunteer engagement, and amplify awareness against substance abuse.
The campaign brings together diverse stakeholders including Central Ministries and Departments, States and Union Territories, District Administrations, spiritual organizations, and Grant-in-Aid institutions in a coordinated nationwide effort. Activities planned from June 17-26 include mass pledge drives, awareness rallies, cycle rallies, youth-led campaigns, poster-making, slogan-writing and essay competitions, webinars, expert interactions, street plays, folk performances, cultural programmes, and social media outreach initiatives.
Special emphasis is placed on engaging youth through schools, colleges, and higher educational institutions. Community outreach will be conducted through Panchayati Raj Institutions, NSS volunteers, MY Bharat volunteers, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, and local leadership networks to ensure grassroots participation. The campaign also integrates wellness activities on International Day of Yoga (June 21st) with yoga and meditation sessions, wellness programmes, and community-based awareness initiatives under the message "Yoga for Wellness, Say No to Drugs."
A comprehensive multimedia outreach strategy will leverage mass media and social media under the hashtag #NashaMuktBharat. Citizens are encouraged to participate in the nationwide e-Pledge and register as Nasha Mukti Mitras through the official portal https://nmba.dosje.gov.in/volunteer/registration or by scanning a QR code, reinforcing the vision of a Viksit Bharat powered by healthy, aware, and empowered citizens.
