The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment organized a tree plantation activity under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative at the Babu Jagjivan Ram National Foundation in New Delhi on October 2, 2026. The event was part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 Campaign aimed at promoting a clean and green environment.
Dr. Virendra Kumar, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, led the plantation drive along with Shri B. L. Verma, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment. Officials from the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment and the Babu Jagjivan Ram National Foundation participated in the activity. Dr. Kumar emphasized the importance of protecting and nurturing the environment, drawing parallels between Mother Earth's nurturing of nature and mothers' nurturing of human life.
The initiative was described as reflecting the Ministry's commitment to the objectives of Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 and the broader vision of Swachh Bharat and Viksit Bharat. During the event, the ministers paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, and Babu Jagjivan Ram. Dr. Kumar also administered a pledge to participants to contribute toward a clean and green environment.
The plantation drive aimed to reinforce the message of environmental responsibility and sustainable development while encouraging citizens and institutions to contribute toward building a cleaner, greener, and healthier India.
