The Department of Social Justice & Empowerment achieved its highest-ever expenditure of Rs. 11,810.82 crore in FY 2025-26, a 14% increase over the previous year.
Record expenditure was directed towards welfare schemes for Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes, and other vulnerable groups including sanitation workers and senior citizens.
The department also posted record spending on schemes for drug demand reduction, transgender persons, and persons engaged in begging.
