The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports conducted a review meeting with National Sports Federations (NSFs) following India's 4th place finish at the 2026 Asian Games. Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya emphasized the need to develop a continuous pipeline of champions rather than relying on individual medal winners like Mirabai Chanu, calling for the identification of talent and proper training environment.

The meeting served as a platform to assess preparations for upcoming international events including the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, 2030 Commonwealth Games, and 2030 Asian Games in Doha. Dr. Mandaviya stressed the need for more sports psychologists, sports science experts, and high-performance mental trainers to support athletes competing on international stages.

The revised Assistance to National Sports Federations (ANSF) guidelines booklet was inaugurated during the conclave. Minister of State Smt. Raksha Khadse called for alignment with the Khelo India Mission and emphasized the need for functional state and district-level federations. Secretary (Sports) Shri Hari Ranjan Rao set specific targets: India should aim for top 3 finish at the 2030 Asian Games in Doha and break its own record from the 2010 Commonwealth Games by finishing among top 3 in the 2030 edition, which India is scheduled to host.
