The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment published a case study highlighting the successful rehabilitation of a 23-year-old graduate named Amit (name changed) through the District De-Addiction Centre (DDAC) in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The individual faced significant personal, social and financial challenges due to substance dependence that affected his physical health, daily routine, emotional well-being and personal relationships, despite working as a part-time employee.
The rehabilitation intervention began on May 30, 2025, when Amit received comprehensive support including medical treatment, timely medicines, healthcare facilities, safe accommodation, nutritious food and vocational guidance. The program provided continuous emotional and psychological support through counseling sessions, motivational activities, yoga and regular interactions with caregivers and center staff.
The structured rehabilitation program helped improve Amit's health, develop discipline and regain confidence. Regular counseling and continuous encouragement strengthened his emotional well-being and improved social behavior, facilitating relationship rebuilding with family members and community reintegration. The individual has now resumed regular work, achieved financial self-support, and is rebuilding trust within his family and community.
