Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh will visit Gangtok and Mangan districts in Sikkim on November 2-3, 2026, to review fisheries development initiatives and inaugurate projects worth ₹375 lakh under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). During the visit, the minister will launch the Standard Operating Procedure for organic fish farming, distribute Kisan Credit Cards to fish farmers, and provide cheques to beneficiaries under the Mukhya Mantri Matsya Uthpadhan Yojana (MMMUY).

The visit is part of a structured mechanism for periodic visits of Union Ministers to the Northeastern Region established under the Prime Minister's guidance to support development programme implementation and obtain field-level feedback. The minister will interact with the Fish Farmers' Cooperative Society at the Live Fish Vending Centre in Mangshila to understand requirements in fish marketing and cooperative activities, review PMMSY interventions at DAC Mangan, and gather feedback from fisheries stakeholders.

The Northeastern Region's significant potential for sustainable and high-value fisheries and aquaculture is highlighted, with abundant freshwater resources, diverse aquatic ecosystems, and rich biodiversity. The government has adopted a cluster-based approach for integrated fisheries value chain development, with 34 production and processing clusters notified nationwide under PMMSY, including organic fisheries clusters in Sikkim and Meghalaya. This approach focuses on certification, traceability, aggregation, processing, value addition, and alignment with global export market requirements to position the region as a hub for certified organic and premium fishery products.

The initiatives aim to strengthen export readiness, improve market access to domestic and overseas markets, enhance value realization for fish farmers, and strengthen livelihoods across the fisheries value chain. The visit includes participation from senior officers of the Government of Sikkim, district administration, fisheries departments, relevant line ministries, ICAR institutes, fish farmers, cooperative societies, and farmer producer organizations.
