On Friday, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced that the United States will eliminate the 35% tariffs imposed on Serbian goods, with the rates dropping to zero percent starting Friday evening. Vucic added that the tariff rates may eventually be set between 10% and 12%.
Background on Tariffs
The 35% tariffs were introduced by the United States last year and primarily affected Serbian small and medium‑size enterprises operating in the automotive, agriculture, machinery, metals, manufacturing, and defense sectors.
2025 Trade Statistics
According to U.S. Census Bureau data, the 2025 U.S.–Serbia trade balance recorded a deficit of $730.5 million for the United States. In the same year, the United States imported $944.2 million worth of goods from Serbia while exporting $213.7 million to the Balkan nation.
Expected Impact
Vucic stated that the removal of the tariffs is intended to attract additional investment to Serbia and to support the country’s investment and credit ratings. He also referenced his plan to call snap general elections in the coming months.
