Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission Implementation Update

The Viksit Bharat - Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) represents a significant reform in rural development, operational since July 1, 2026, across all rural areas of India. The program succeeded Mahatma Gandhi NREGA with a seamless transition and fully operational digital systems from commencement.

The Act provides a statutory guarantee of 125 days of wage employment every financial year to every rural household whose adult members volunteer for unskilled manual work. The program focuses on four thematic areas: water security, core rural infrastructure, livelihood-related infrastructure, and mitigation of extreme weather events. It institutionalizes a Whole-of-Government approach through convergence-driven and saturation-oriented planning centered on Viksit Gram Panchayat Plans (VGPPs).

VGPPs enable participatory, evidence-based planning at the grassroots level with active participation of Gram Sabha and Gram Panchayat. The planning process involves comprehensive asset mapping covering existing assets from various government schemes, uses GIS-based tools including Yuktdhara and PM Gati Shakti, and identifies 318 types of permissible works across the four thematic areas.

Implementation Progress Metrics

As of September 24, 2026, the program has achieved significant scale: 10.88 crore active workers in 2026-27, creation of 2.83 lakh assets, generation of more than 31.69 crore person-days, and women's participation rate of 61.65%. Employment has been provided to over 2.81 crore workers belonging to approximately 2.23 crore rural households on demand. Currently, 97.17 lakh works are under execution with 73.24 lakh approved works readily available to meet future employment demand. Around 20.16 lakh active worksites are operational across nearly 2.31 lakh Gram Panchayats executing works nationwide. The program has issued 15.17 crore Gramin Rozgar Guarantee Cards and processed 3.76 crore Direct Benefit Transfer transactions in 2026-27, with wage rates ranging from ₹300 to ₹450 per day.

Financial Allocation and Disbursement

A total of ₹93,841 crore has been allocated to States/UTs as interim allocation for FY 2026-27, out of which a Mother Sanction of ₹25,880 crore has been issued as the first installment to the States/UTs.

Technology Integration and Transparency

Digital systems form the core of implementation, featuring e-KYC and worker attendance through Face Authentication and biometric authentication, geo-tagging, digital measurement, electronic Measurement Books (e-MB), and mobile-based monitoring. The program utilizes spatial technology-enabled planning, real-time dashboards, AI-enabled analytics, and dedicated digital platforms for citizen engagement and capacity building to enhance transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency.
