Vice-President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan flagged off the Har Ghar Tiranga Bike Rally with Members of Parliament and other public representatives at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi on August 12, 2026. The event commemorated 150 years of the National Song, Vande Mataram, and was organized by the Ministry of Culture as part of the #HarGharTiranga 2026 campaign.
The bike rally proceeded from Bharat Mandapam to Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, carrying the message of national pride, unity, and citizen participation. In his address, the Vice-President stated that Vande Mataram transformed love for the motherland into a national duty and became a powerful expression of the spirit of India's freedom struggle. He noted how its words inspired countless freedom fighters with courage, sacrifice, and hope.
The Vice-President recalled his recent visit to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, specifically mentioning Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island and the historic Cellular Jail as deeply moving experiences. He referenced Netaji's hoisting of the Tricolour in 1943 and the sacrifices of freedom fighters imprisoned in Cellular Jail, many of whom went to the gallows with the cry of Vande Mataram.
Shri Radhakrishnan highlighted the nationwide impact of Vande Mataram during India's freedom struggle and specifically recalled contributions from Tamil Nadu freedom fighters including V. O. Chidambaram Pillai, Subramaniya Siva, Tiruppur Kumaran, Vanchinathan, and national poet Subramania Bharati who carried the spirit of Vande Mataram to the people.
The Vice-President stated that the Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan, launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in 2022, has evolved into a people's movement with citizens participating in Tiranga Yatras, bike and cycle rallies, cultural programs, and other activities. He emphasized that the Tricolour gives visible form to the feeling of one Motherland and urged MPs and public representatives to promote the campaign in their constituencies to inspire citizens to hoist the National Flag with pride.
The event was attended by Union Ministers Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Shri Virendra Kumar, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Shri Kiren Rijiju, and Shri Jitendra Singh along with Members of Parliament and other public representatives.
