Vice President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan launched the 'Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan' in Andaman & Nicobar Islands on August 9, 2026, coinciding with August Kranti Diwas which commemorates the Quit India Movement of 1942. The inauguration took place at Flag Point, Sri Vijaya Puram, where the Vice President hoisted the National Flag at the same historic site where Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose had hoisted the Tricolour on December 30, 1943, proclaiming the islands free from British rule.

Addressing a gathering at the DBRAIT Auditorium during the State Function and Tiranga Concert on Vande Mataram, the Vice President emphasized the islands' deep association with India's freedom struggle, describing them as a sacred land of sacrifice and an eternal symbol of India's freedom struggle. He paid tribute to freedom fighters who endured the Cellular Jail, specifically mentioning Veer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, and recalled Mahatma Gandhi's 'Do or Die' call of August 8, 1942.

The Vice President stated that the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has evolved into a nationwide people's movement and called upon every citizen to proudly display the Tricolour while imbibing the values of patriotism, unity, and collective responsibility. He affirmed that 'Bharat is one and will always remain one' and highlighted the islands as an example of 'Unity in Diversity' and 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat'.

Regarding development projects, the Vice President mentioned that the Great Nicobar Island Development Project would strengthen India's maritime capabilities, improve connectivity, and unlock new economic opportunities while balancing development with environmental conservation. He emphasized that India's generosity should not be mistaken for weakness and that the nation must remain prepared to protect national interests and sovereignty.

The event was attended by Lieutenant Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands Admiral D. K. Joshi (Retd.), Chief Secretary Smt. Chanchal Yadav, Chairperson of Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council Smt. M. Vasantha, and Adhyaksh of Zilla Parishad Shri P. Ummer, among other dignitaries. The Vice President also attended a cultural program and visited the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' Exhibition showcasing the campaign's spirit and message of national unity.
