The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India, in collaboration with the Government of West Bengal and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), organized West Bengal's first-ever Kaushal Mahotsav in Balurghat, which witnessed a historic turnout with over 7,500 interviews conducted. The event provided more than 7,000 job opportunities from over 50 employers across diverse sectors including manufacturing, retail, logistics, healthcare, hospitality, food processing, banking and financial services, and other services, resulting in more than 4,500 candidates being shortlisted.
The event was attended by several prominent government officials including Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Minister of State for Education and Minister of State for Development of Northeastern Region, Government of India, who highlighted that the Skill India Mission was envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure Indian youth are skilled and connected with employment opportunities. Dr. Majumdar encouraged youth to use digital platforms for learning and growth rather than entertainment and praised Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, for bringing the initiative to the remote region of Balurghat.
Major employers participating in the event included Royal Enfield, Wipro, Axis Bank, Barbeque Nation, Blink Commerce, HP Cotton Casuals, Sodexo, Spandana Sphoorty Financial, Tata Projects, TVS Supply Chain, Kawasaki Precision Machinery, and Zepto. The Kaushal Mahotsav is a flagship initiative of MSDE aimed at connecting young people with employment and career opportunities, creating meaningful impact for youth across India.
