The Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), implementing agency of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushdhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), has not received any proposal from the Government of West Bengal for expansion of 469 new Jan Aushadhi Kendras in the state. As of June 30, 2026, West Bengal has 1,014 operational Jan Aushadhi Kendras, with 715 located across 217 blocks of the state's total 345 blocks, leaving 128 blocks without any coverage.
District-wise Distribution
North 24 Parganas district has the highest concentration with 203 JAKs, followed by Kolkata (162), Hooghly (109), Howrah (109), and Paschim Bardhaman (55). Several districts have minimal coverage: Dakshin Dinajpur (2), Kalimpong (2), Uttar Dinajpur (7), Birbhum (10), Purulia (11), Malda (13), and Cooch Behar (15).
Block-level Coverage Details
The block-wise data shows significant variation in distribution. Barrackpur-II block in North 24 Parganas has the highest number at 34 JAKs, followed by Sreerampur-Uttarpara in Hooghly (17), Barasat-I in North 24 Parganas (17), and Bally-Jagacha in Howrah (14). Many blocks have only 1-2 JAKs, indicating uneven distribution across the state.
Uncovered Blocks
The 128 blocks without any Jan Aushadhi Kendra span across all districts. Major uncovered areas include: Alipurduar-II, Falakata, Kalchini, Kumargram in Alipurduar; multiple blocks in Bankura, Birbhum, Cooch Behar, Dakshin Dinajpur, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Jhargram, Kalimpong, Malda, Murshidabad, Nadia, North 24 Parganas, Paschim Medinipur, Purba Bardhaman, Purba Medinipur, Purulia, South 24 Parganas, and Uttar Dinajpur districts.
