The Ministry of Tribal Affairs provided a comprehensive update on the implementation progress of Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) and Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DA JGUA) in West Bengal. The schemes were launched by the Prime Minister on November 15, 2023, and October 2, 2024, respectively, targeting Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
During the current financial year, the Ministry has approved projects amounting to ₹125.74 crore (12,574.70 lakhs) for West Bengal under the MoTA components of DA JGUA. The state has three identified PVTGs: Birhor, Lodha, and Toto, with a total population of 68,720 individuals across 19,991 households in 495 habitations spread across 4 districts, 24 blocks, and 428 villages.
Implementation progress as of June 30, 2026, shows varied results across ministries: Under MoJS (Jal Jeevan Mission), 418 villages have been sanctioned with 86 achieving saturation. MoHFW (National Rural Health Mission) has sanctioned and made operational 16 Mobile Medical Units. MoP (RDSS) has successfully electrified all 3,372 sanctioned households. MoC (DoT-USOF) has covered 3 out of 12 planned habitations. For VDVKs (Village Distribution Van Kendras), 5 have been sanctioned but no businesses have started operation yet.
Financial progress for VDVKs shows that in FY 2025-26, ₹13.9 lakhs were sanctioned with ₹6.95 lakhs released, while no funds were sanctioned or released in the previous two fiscal years. The state government has surveyed 18,173 PVTG households and is required to examine the data to address gaps in scheme eligibility and norms. No proposals for Multi-Purpose Centers (MPCs) have been submitted to the Ministry by the state government.
