ACC Bargarh Cement Works Reaches ₹26.81 Crore Settlement with Workers
A significant industrial dispute at ACC Limited's Bargarh Cement Works has been resolved through the intervention of the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) Organisation in Bhubaneswar. The dispute originated from a closure notice issued by the management on June 19, 2026, proposing to close the establishment effective August 19, 2026. This potential closure prompted conciliation proceedings led by Shri Chiranjeev Saikia, Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), Bhubaneswar, acting as Conciliation Officer under the Ministry of Labour & Employment.
Following sustained conciliation efforts between the management and the workmen represented by Hira Cement Shramika Sangha, Bardol, Bargarh district, a Memorandum of Settlement was successfully executed on July 27, 2026. The settlement secures a minimum financial package of ₹26.81 crore for the benefit of at least 61 Shop Floor Associates (SFAs) employed at the cement works. The agreement comprehensively addresses welfare and service-related entitlements of the workmen, safeguarding their financial interests and social security.
During the proceedings, the management was sensitized regarding its statutory obligations pertaining to worker welfare, maintenance of fair service conditions, and compliance with applicable labor laws. The management provided assurances of its continued commitment to workforce welfare and observance of statutory provisions. The resolution was achieved through active cooperation from both ACC Limited's management representatives and the leadership of Hira Cement Shramika Sangha, transforming a potential crisis into a constructive solution through balanced conciliation.
