Wage Dispute Resolution at Ordnance Factory Kanpur
The Ministry of Labour & Employment successfully resolved a significant wage-related dispute affecting 423 contract workers at Ordnance Factory, Kanpur, which operates under Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWEIL). The resolution was achieved through the conciliation efforts of the Regional Labour Commissioner (Central), Kanpur, operating under the Office of the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central).
Following sustained intervention, the contractor M/s Immense Manpower Pvt. Ltd. disbursed approximately ₹50,00,000 (Rupees Fifty Lakh) on August 13, 2026, covering outstanding wages for the months of June and July 2026 to all 423 workers. Additionally, the Principal Employer released the contractor's pending bill for May 2026, facilitating complete settlement of all wage-related issues and ensuring timely payment to the workforce.
The successful conciliation averted a proposed strike or demonstration by workers, thereby preventing disruption of industrial operations and promoting industrial peace at the establishment. During the proceedings, management was sensitized about its statutory obligations regarding workers' welfare, fair service conditions, and compliance with labour laws. The management provided assurances of its continued commitment to workforce welfare and adherence to statutory provisions.
This case reflects the Ministry's commitment to protecting workers' rights, ensuring timely realization of statutory benefits, promoting fair labour practices, and fostering harmonious industrial relations through constructive dialogue and effective conciliation mechanisms.
