Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) has disclosed a regulatory compliance update regarding the stoppage of blasting operations at its New Akashkinaree Colliery (NAKC) in the Govindpur Area.

The Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), vide its communication dated 17.08.2026, has withdrawn the permission previously granted under the Coal Mines Regulations, 2017 for controlled deep-hole blasting operations at the New Akashkinaree Colliery. DGMS has explicitly directed that blasting operations in this area shall not be resumed without obtaining express and fresh written permission from DGMS.

This regulatory action follows directives issued by the Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman, District Disaster Management Authority, Dhanbad, through their letter dated 14.08.2026. The authority directed the stoppage of blasting and mining operations until the affected area is declared safe following a comprehensive scientific study and evaluation.

The matter pertains to a land subsidence incident that occurred at Chhatabad near New Akashkinaree Colliery. The subsidence has occurred over the abandoned IX Seam old underground workings of New Akashkinaree Colliery. The affected land is owned by BCCL.

BCCL is undertaking appropriate steps in accordance with the instructions of the concerned authorities, including conducting the required technical study and seeking fresh permission at the earliest opportunity.
