BPCL received two separate orders from the Collector & Additional Superintendent of Stamps, Gujarat, both dated September 8, 2026, and received by the company on September 10, 2026.
First Order:
- Pertains to the Scheme of Amalgamation of Bharat Oman Refineries Limited with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (order dated June 22, 2022)
- Demands payment of stamp duty: ₹18,56,181
- Demands payment of penalty: ₹18,93,305
Second Order:
- Pertains to a land allotment order from 2010 and three land awards from years 2001, 2003, and 2007
- Demands payment of stamp duty: ₹1,25,534
- Demands payment of penalty: ₹7,37,681
Violation Details
The authority cited non-payment of stamp duty on instruments that are chargeable with duty and are not duly stamped as the violation/contravention. In both orders, the authority rejected the company's objections regarding levy of stamp duty, penalty, and impounding of the said instruments.
Company Response and Impact Assessment
BPCL has reviewed the orders and stated it will approach the authorities for withdrawing the orders/file an appeal. The company explicitly states: "There is no material impact of the above-mentioned orders on the Company."
