CAQM Inspection of Urban Road Redevelopment in Noida Region
The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) conducted a special inspection drive on July 10, 2026, covering 17 urban road stretches spanning approximately 46.87 kilometres in Noida and Greater Noida. The inspection aimed to assess redevelopment progress in accordance with the Commission's Standard Framework for dust control measures.
Inspection Findings and Compliance Status
The inspection covered 11 road stretches under the jurisdiction of Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) and 6 road stretches under Noida Authority, across roads with Right of Way categories of 10-15 metres and greater than 15 metres. Only 9 of the 17 road stretches (approximately 53%) were found to have complete end-to-end paving, with 5 under GNIDA and 4 under Noida Authority meeting the standard. However, 8 road stretches (6 under GNIDA and 2 under Noida Authority) lacked complete end-to-end paving, indicating incomplete redevelopment works.
Identified Infrastructure Gaps
The inspection revealed significant infrastructure deficiencies contributing to potential dust emissions. Unpaved or missing pathways were identified along 8 road stretches (6 under GNIDA and 2 under Noida Authority). Additionally, paved central verges were absent on 5 road stretches (3 under GNIDA and 2 under Noida Authority). These gaps represent critical shortcomings in dust control infrastructure.
Regulatory Directives and Future Monitoring
The Commission emphasized that proper paving of roads and adjoining pathways is essential for minimizing resuspension of dust caused by vehicular movement and enhancing the effectiveness of mechanized road sweeping operations. Concerned authorities have been directed to expedite the remaining redevelopment works and ensure regular maintenance. CAQM reiterated that implementation of the Standard Framework by all road-owning agencies across Delhi-NCR remains critical for long-term mitigation of road dust, which is a major contributor to particulate air pollution in urban areas. The Commission confirmed that inspection drives will continue across Delhi-NCR to monitor on-ground implementation of various air pollution control measures and facilitate timely corrective action.
