CCI Approves Brookfield's Acquisition of Oaktree Units
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has granted approval for the acquisition of units in Oaktree Capital Group Holdings, L.P. (OCGH) and Oaktree Equity Plan, L.P. (OEP) by Brookfield Asset Management Ltd. (BAM). The approval was announced on July 28, 2026, through a PIB Delhi release.
The proposed combination involves the indirect acquisition of units of both OCGH and OEP, which consequently means the acquisition of the entire Oaktree operating group of entities by BAM. Brookfield Asset Management Ltd. is described as a global alternative asset manager that is controlled by Brookfield Corporation (BN). Both OCGH and OEP are structured as limited partnerships and form part of the Oaktree group, which is engaged in providing alternative investment management services globally.
The CCI noted that a detailed order explaining the Commission's decision will follow this initial approval announcement. The transaction represents a significant consolidation in the global alternative asset management industry, bringing together two major players under Brookfield's ownership structure.
