Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh met with a delegation from the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) on August 28, 2026, who invited him to be the Guest of Honour at the 26th ICSI National Awards for Excellence in Corporate Governance presentation ceremony in 2027. During the interaction, Dr. Singh emphasized that good corporate governance is central to India's development and highlighted the expanding role of company secretaries in promoting responsible governance, ethical practices, and institutional accountability across India's corporate and economic ecosystem.

Dr. Singh called for greater contribution from company secretaries to India's growth, noting their professional expertise can strengthen governance practices. He emphasized that professional excellence and good governance should go hand in hand in India's development journey and stressed the importance of creating a stronger culture of ethical entrepreneurship. The Minister appreciated ICSI's role in promoting governance standards and evolving practices in response to changing requirements, particularly noting their initiatives in Panchayat Governance and local-body governance, including preparing manuals and training material in multiple languages.

The Minister also praised ICSI's digitalization efforts, specifically the adoption of electronic voting and a preferential voting system for its elections. The delegation briefed Dr. Singh on ICSI's activities, revealing that the institute has more than 80,000 members and approximately 250,000 students. The interaction also covered ICSI's initiatives relating to professional standards, secretarial standards, corporate governance, and its Lifetime Achievement Award for Translating Excellence in Corporate Governance into Reality.
