Supreme Court set aside Tribunal and High Court orders directing appointment of respondents to Plant Attendant post at Durgapur Steel Plant.
Court held recruitment rules did not require publishing marks and no evidence respondents passed written exam, rejecting appointment claim.
Instead of appointment, Court ordered Durgapur Steel Plant to pay Rs 5,00,000 to respondent No. 1 within two months.
Recruitment attracted 52,000 applications, 29,459 appeared for written test, 1,530 qualified, and 194 candidates ultimately joined service.
