FSFTI’s Request for Extension of Admission Deadline

The Federation of Self‑Financing Technical Institutions (FSFTI) has formally urged the University Grants Commission (UGC), the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the Ministry of Education and other regulatory authorities to extend the admission deadline for technical and professional courses from the current date of 14 August 2026 to 30 October 2026.

Rationale Behind the Appeal

Dr Anshu Kataria, President of FSFTI, Chairman of Aryans Group of Colleges and President of the Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA), highlighted a series of disruptions that have compressed the window for students to make informed admission choices. These include:

  • Ongoing uncertainties surrounding the NEET examination, examination‑related controversies, the need for re‑examinations and delayed result announcements.
  • Prolonged counselling processes for medical and healthcare streams, which many students await before considering engineering, pharmacy, management, allied‑healthcare and other professional programmes.
  • Frequent changes and clarifications under the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) framework, creating confusion over eligibility, entrance requirements, course nomenclature, sanctioned intake, institutional recognition and the regulatory status of colleges.
  • Delays in Polytechnic results and CBSE Class XII re‑evaluation results, affecting lateral‑entry admissions into engineering and other technical programmes.
  • ITI examinations have only recently concluded, with results not expected before 14 August; consequently, students seeking admission to Polytechnic through the LEET will be unable to complete the admission process within the existing AICTE timeline.

Adv. Amit Sharma, Senior Vice‑President of PUCA, added that several NCAHP provisions and norms have neither been implemented uniformly nor communicated clearly, and the absence of a fully functional, transparent mechanism makes it difficult for students to identify duly recognised courses and institutions.

Dr K.V.K. Rao, General Secretary of FSFTI, pointed out that flood‑related disruptions in Assam, Odisha, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab and other states have further hampered admissions. Displacement, damaged road and internet connectivity, financial hardship and difficulties in obtaining academic documents have prevented many students from completing counselling, travelling to institutions and finalising admissions.

Call from PUCA Members

PUCA members—including S. Manjit Singh, S. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Ashwani Garg, Ashok Garg, Mohit Mahajan, S. Gurkirat Singh, S. Gurpreet Singh and H.S. Kanda—have collectively urged the aforementioned authorities to grant the extension to 30 October 2026 so that deserving students are not deprived of higher‑education opportunities due to circumstances beyond their control.

Precedent of Supreme Court Extensions

The press release notes that, based on PUCA petitions before the Supreme Court, admission deadlines for technical courses were previously extended to 30 October 2025, 23 October 2024 and 30 October 2023. In 2022, admissions were allowed until 25 October for first‑year courses and 30 October for lateral‑entry programmes.

Additional Regulatory Context

The Pharmacy Council of India has already permitted admissions for pharmacy programmes until 15 September 2026, underscoring the disparity in deadline allowances across regulatory bodies.
