The field machinery of the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) under the Ministry of Labour & Employment resolved three long-pending industrial disputes in Dhanbad, securing total monetary relief exceeding ₹55 lakh for retired workers and dependents of deceased employees. These interventions demonstrate the Ministry's commitment to ensuring timely justice, promoting social security, and fostering harmonious industrial relations through dialogue and consensus.

In the first case, the Assistant Labour Commissioner (Central)-I, Dhanbad resolved a dispute concerning monetary compensation for the dependent of a deceased workman at Burragarh Colliery of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL). A Memorandum of Settlement signed on July 1, 2026 provides monthly monetary compensation to the dependent until the age of 60 years, with an estimated financial implication of approximately ₹30 lakh, ensuring long-term financial security and social security support.

The Assistant Labour Commissioner (Central)-II, Dhanbad resolved a dispute relating to delayed payment of interest on retirement benefits for two retired employees of Fertilizer Corporation of India Limited (FCIL). Through sustained conciliation efforts, a Memorandum of Settlement signed on July 7, 2026 requires FCIL management to pay simple interest at six percent per annum from the date of retirement until actual payment of ex gratia and leave encashment dues. This settlement has an estimated financial implication of approximately ₹14 lakh and provides long-awaited financial relief to the retired employees. The proceedings emphasized employers' statutory responsibility to ensure timely settlement of retirement benefits, with management assuring appropriate corrective measures to prevent recurrence.

The Regional Labour Commissioner (Central), Dhanbad resolved a dispute concerning monetary compensation for the dependent of a deceased employee of Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL). Through sustained conciliation between management and the workers' union, a Memorandum of Settlement signed on July 3, 2026 has an estimated financial implication of approximately ₹11 lakh and provides monthly monetary compensation to the dependent. During the process, ECL management was sensitized about its statutory obligations relating to workers' welfare, social security, and timely support to families of deceased employees, reinforcing the importance of maintaining harmonious industrial relations through constructive dialogue.

These settlements were achieved through the concerted efforts of the Regional Labour Commissioner (Central), Dhanbad and Assistant Labour Commissioners (Central)-I and II, Dhanbad, who engaged in intensive conciliation between management and workers' unions. The CLC(C) machinery continues to ensure compliance with labour laws, promote timely delivery of social security and retirement benefits, and foster an environment of trust and cooperation in industrial establishments through sustained engagement with employers, trade unions, and workers.
