Lufthansa Appeal Dismissed on EU Aid

Lufthansa’s appeal against EU pandemic state‑aid approval was dismissed by the EU Court of Justice, upholding the 2023 General Court ruling.
The ruling, originally triggered by Ryanair’s legal challenge, nullifies the European Commission’s clearance of Lufthansa’s COVID‑era recapitalisation.
Lufthansa said it will cooperate with the ongoing Commission investigation (since 2024) and remains in talks with institutions.
Lufthansa will cut 20,000 short‑haul flights by October and retire 27 CityLine aircraft due to fuel costs and strike expenses.
