Meta Platforms Inc – Ongoing EU Discussions on Addictive Design Features

The European Commission announced on Wednesday that it is continuing talks with Meta Platforms Inc after preliminary findings from two years ago concluded the company violated the Digital Services Act by embedding addictive design features in its Facebook and Instagram platforms. Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier stated that Meta retains the option to propose its own set of commitments to the EU to remedy the identified breaches. Regnier also declined to comment on the settlement Meta recently reached with nearly all U.S. states, which comprised an $18 billion payment together with a series of commitments, but provided no further details on the EU‑specific proposals.
