Northern Coalfields Rs10 Cr Penalty Investigation

Supreme Court heard Civil Appeals Nos. 6066‑6067/2023 by Northern Coalfields Ltd. Bina Project against Union of India.
Court noted coal dumping over 35 bighas near Krishnashila Railway siding, Sonebhadra, causing pollution; NGT imposed a Rs 10 crore penalty on the appellant.
Advocate Commissioner Ms. Vanshaja Shukla, aided by UPPCB, police and railway officials, was appointed to inspect the site and report within three weeks.
Appellant ordered to cover the Commissioner’s travel, stay and pay Rs 1 lakh per day as remuneration for the investigation.
