Regulatory and Policy Measures
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that premature redemption of the Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB) 2020‑21 Series‑XI will be permitted on August 07, 2026, which is the first eligible date after the fifth year from the issue date of February 09, 2021. The redemption date falls on a Saturday; therefore, the effective business day for redemption is August 07, 2026, with August 08 and August 09 observed as holidays.
The redemption price for each unit of the bond has been fixed at ₹14,564 (Rupees Fourteen Thousand Five Hundred and Sixty‑Four Only). This price is derived from the simple average of the closing price of 999‑purity gold for the three business days preceding the redemption date – specifically August 04, August 05, and August 06, 2026 – as published by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association Ltd (IBJA).
The basis for allowing premature redemption after the fifth year is provided in Government of India notification F.No.4(4)-B(W&M)/2020 dated October 09, 2020, which authorises such redemption on the date on which interest is payable.
