The Reserve Bank of India announces that the redemption price for premature redemption of the Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB) 2019‑20 Series IX and SGB 2020‑21 Series V, payable on August 11, 2026, is set at ₹14,957 per unit. The price is derived from the simple average of the closing price of 999‑purity gold for the three business days preceding the redemption date – specifically August 06, August 07, and August 10, 2026 – as published by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association Ltd (IBJA).
Regulatory and Policy Measures
In accordance with Government of India notification F.No.4(7)-B(W&M)/2019 dated September 30, 2019, and notification F.No.4(4)-B(W&M)/2020 dated April 13, 2020, premature redemption of Sovereign Gold Bonds is permissible after the fifth year from the issue date, on the date on which interest is payable. The SGB 2019‑20 Series IX was issued on February 11, 2020, and the SGB 2020‑21 Series V was issued on August 11, 2020; consequently, the next eligible date for premature redemption of both tranches is August 11, 2026.
