Syngene Tax Litigation Update: ₹43 Cr Refund Granted

Syngene International received an order dated February 6, 2026 granting a tax refund of ₹43,15,79,510 (including interest) for AY 2016-17.
The refund follows a partial appeal victory at NFAC for AY 2016-17 and a Karnataka High Court order allowing a writ petition for AY 2010-11, 2011-12, and 2012-13.
The original tax demand for AY 2016-17 was ₹72,33,63,020; the company expects a decrease in contingent liability with no material financial impact.
No penalty or sanctions were imposed; the company is analysing the order and will take appropriate action.
