TRAI Ahmedabad-Gandhidham Rail Route Network Quality Assessment
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released findings from an Independent Drive Test conducted on the Ahmedabad to Gandhidham Rail Route in Gujarat LSA during June 2026. The purpose of this assessment was to verify real-time quality of mobile network services (both voice and data) provided by Telecom Service Providers across 300 kilometers of railway route, passing through Viramgam Junction, Dhrangadhra Junction, Halvad, Samakhiali Junction, and Bhachau.
The drive test was conducted on 30th June 2026 under the supervision of TRAI Regional Office Jaipur, using multiple advanced test handsets to establish live data and voice sessions across 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G networks from all major operators. The assessment measured key Quality of Service parameters including coverage gaps, call drop rates, call setup success rates, and data throughput performance.
Coverage Gap Analysis
The signal strength assessment revealed significant variations in coverage quality among operators. For Airtel, 909 out of 19,130 samples showed poor signal strength; BSNL demonstrated the poorest coverage with 3,904 poor samples out of 17,085 total; RJIL showed 361 poor samples out of 19,028; and VIL had 522 poor samples out of 18,945.
Voice Service Performance
Call drop rates varied considerably among providers. Airtel recorded 0 dropped calls out of 96 successfully established calls; BSNL showed the highest drop rate with 7 dropped calls out of 84; RJIL maintained perfect performance with 0 drops out of 96 calls; and VIL also recorded 0 dropped calls out of 95 established calls.
Data Service Performance
Download throughput performance showed RJIL leading with average speeds of 134.73 Mbps on its 5G/4G network, followed by Airtel at 64.47 Mbps (5G/4G), VIL at 23.44 Mbps (5G/4G/2G), and BSNL at 18.52 Mbps (4G/3G/2G). Upload performance followed a similar pattern: RJIL at 14.93 Mbps, Airtel at 13.32 Mbps, VIL at 11.48 Mbps, and BSNL at 7.64 Mbps.
The findings have been shared with respective telecom service providers for necessary corrective actions. The detailed drive test report with geographical mapping of coverage gaps and dropped call locations is available on the TRAI website at www.trai.gov.in, with additional clarifications available through TRAI's Regional Office in Jaipur.
