TRAI Mobile Network Quality Assessment for Bharuch, Gujarat

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has published the findings of an Independent Drive Test (IDT) conducted in Bharuch city and nearby areas in Gujarat LSA during May 5-8, 2026. The assessment was designed to verify real-time quality of mobile network services (both voice and data) provided by Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) and inform consumers while encouraging service improvements.

The drive testing covered 361.2 kilometers of city driving, 11 hotspot locations, and 1.5 kilometers of walk tests across multiple areas including Derol, Samni, Vagara, Pakhajan, Galenda, Dahej, Lakhigam, Luvara, Ambetha, Jolva, Eksal, Dehgam, Andada, Ankleshwar, Kosamdi, Govali Bet, Jhanor, Nabipur, Palej, and Tankariya. Specific hotspots tested included Ankleshwar GSRTC Bus Stand, Ankleshwar Railway Station, Bharuch GSRTC Bus Stand, Bharuch Railway Station, City Centre Bharuch, Civil Hospital Bharuch, Collector Office Bharuch, Inox Shalimar Mall, Matariya Talav, Panchbatti Chauraha, and Zadeshwar Chaukdi, with walk tests conducted from Soneri Mahal to Dhodhi Kui Bazaar.

Key performance metrics assessed included coverage gap (percentage of samples with signal strength below minimum prescribed levels), voice service parameters (Call Setup Success Rate, Drop Call Rate, Call Setup Time, Call Silence Rate, Speech Quality), call silence instances, and data service parameters (Download/Upload Throughput, Latency, Jitter, Packet Drop Rate).

Coverage gap analysis showed Airtel had 618 poor signal samples out of 42,053 total samples, BSNL had 3,289 out of 40,866, RJIL had 377 out of 42,071, and VIL had 1,311 out of 41,818. Drop call rates were minimal across providers: Airtel 0/378, BSNL 10/365, RJIL 1/380, and VIL 0/380. Call silence instances (lasting >3 seconds) were observed at Airtel 6/365, BSNL 41/309, RJIL 4/366, and VIL 28/363.

Data performance showed significant variation among providers. For download throughput, Airtel achieved 117.72 Mbps (5G/4G), BSNL 12.93 Mbps (4G/3G/2G), RJIL 180.22 Mbps (5G/4G), and VIL 31.14 Mbps (5G/4G/2G). Upload performance showed Airtel at 24.53 Mbps, BSNL at 4.59 Mbps, RJIL at 24.09 Mbps, and VIL at 17.38 Mbps.

The testing was conducted under the supervision of TRAI Regional Office Jaipur using multiple advanced test handsets and real-time monitoring software systems across 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G networks. The findings have been shared with respective TSPs for necessary action, and the detailed report is available on the TRAI website at www.trai.gov.in.
